Which therapy?

The difference between counselling and psychotherapy is often described in terms of goals and time; the general agreement being that counselling is a shorter-term process with a specific focus, whereas psychotherapy is more in-depth and long-term.

With counselling we might focus on the here and now and concentrate our work on a particular issue that may be concerning you.

With psychotherapy we might look back at your experiences in childhood and adolescence and begin to identify patterns of behaviour and core beliefs that may be contributing to your feelings of unhappiness and distress.
